Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How often should STALL GENIE be used?
A: After a couple applications you will begin to see what frequency works for you. Many variables play a part in how often you will need to use Stall Genie products. Usage and frequency depends on number of animals in stall, pin, or trailer, type of bedding, type of ground, weather conditions, and airiness. Typical usage is 1 lbs per stall per 10days.

Q: Will Stall Genie Absorb Harmful Ammonia?
A: STALL GENIE will retain the ammonia gas, and the absorbed moisture will be dispersed back into the air as safe and toxin-free vapor. The process will continue to return the granule to its original absorbing properties until the saturation level is reached.

Q: How fast will STALL GENIE and STALL ZYME work?
A: The absorption of the ammonia and moisture by STALL GENIE and STALL ZYME will happen immediately upon contact.

Q: What kind of maintenance is required?
A: There is virtually no maintenance for Stall Genie. Depending on your clay soil, you will need to add a few bags periodically and that is it!

Q: What is the Application Rate?
A: Stalls - 1 lbs over fresh bedding every 10 days (results can vary depending on number of animals in area). Grooming Areas - 1/2 lbs on wettest part of grooming area when needed to deodorize and remove toxins.

Q: What is "Stall Genie?
A: "Stall Genie" is a naturally occurring highly absorbent lightweight volcanic aggregate. Due to its porosity, it is an ideal medium for aerating, softening, and draining your soil. Therefore, it came from the earth. It is all natural. Stall Genie acts like little marbles through out your native soil, giving the soil better drainage and better aeration. Ideal for mud! Say good-bye to mud with Stall Genie. Indoors, Stall Genie can be used to absorb urine and extend the life of your bedding as well as your flooring. Stall Genie is safe to use as a bedding alone - even for the miniatures. Stall Genie can be placed directly into mud. Some other uses are for gardening to aerate and drain your soil to obtain better root growth; for a generic cat litter; an absorbent for oil and grease spills; in snow to eliminate slipping; or as an aggregate for lightweight concrete.

Q: Will my horse eat these products?
A: Typically, no. The materials we use are all natural. They may take a curious bite but than they normally spit it out. The sizing does not assimilate a food source. If a horse does ingest the Stall Genie, it is a good indication that they are lacking minerals. Remove the Stall Genie immediately and feed Sand 99 and a mineral supplement.

Note: The Stall Genie is very light per cubic foot, and veterinarians feel that if ingestion did occur that it is light enough and large enough to be passed along with the food. Other materials are so heavy they tend to settle in the gut.

Q: What kind of maintenance is required?
A: There is virtually no maintenance for Stall Genie. Depending on your clay soil, you will need to add a few bags periodically.

Q: When should Stall Genie be used?
A: Ammonia and moisture levels constantly change due to a variety of housing conditions, therefore frequency of application can vary from once every day, to once every several days.

Q: How fast will Stall Genie work?
A: The absorption of the ammonia and moisture by Stall Genie will happen immediately upon contact.

Q: What are the risks of ammonia?
A: Breathing ammonia gas can negatively affect the health of adult horses and especially foals.

Q: Will this product help Foals?
A: Spending much of their time on or near the stall floor, foals are at higher risk for ammonia exposure. 15 percent of all foals suffer a severe respiratory disease before they are one year old. Using Stall Genie can reduce this ammonia exposure.

Q: Can Stall Genie help reduce flies in my stalls?
A: mmonia gas and fecal matter attract flies. Less ammonia gas and faster degradation of biological waste under the influence of Stall Genie means fewer annoying flies.

Q: What is a safe level of ammonia exposure for my horses?
A: Currently, a minimum acceptable level of ammonia for horses and foals has not been established. However, research on the effects of ammonia exposure on calves has indicated that levels of low as 10 ppm may be the cause of health problems. Therefore, if horses are being exposed to those levels or higher, the probability of damage is great.

Q: Will Stall Genie help with Heaves in my horses?
A: Some researchers suspect that heaves (COPD) may be avoidable if horses are not exposed to high levels of ammonia, especially when they are foals. Horses with COPD have increased respiratory problems when they are housed in stalls with high levels of ammonia.
